Spacecraft Disturbance Isolation and Rejection Platform (SDIRP)

This project aims to mature the existing and lab validated Spacecraft Disturbance Isolation and Rejection Platform (SDIRP) technology to TRL6. The relevant environment necessary is a realistic, unconstrained microgravity environment, such as that offered by sub-Orbital Reusable Launch Vehicles. The SDIRP is a compact, low mass, low power pointing, tracking and stabilization system that can significantly improve the usability of suborbital Reusable Launch Vehicles (sRLV) by providing over 50 dB rejection of the vehicles vibration jitter.

Problem Statement

The SDIRP was designed to address the need for vibration isolation and rejection for small payloads (~20 kg capacity) but with a small impact (< 20%) on the overall size, weight and power (SWaP) of the complete system. The SDIRP can accommodate telescopes, cameras and other observational instrument payloads.

Technology Maturation

The current state of the technology has been validated to TRL 4/5 using a laboratory gravity off-load system to simulate the gravity-free environment. Maturation of the SDIRP technology is highly relevant and aligned to the NASA objectives. The SDIRP provides an unprecedented level of instrument stabilization and spacecraft jitter rejection (greater than 50 dB in the 0.1 @ 1 kHz band) for small low mass payloads with a small impact on the overall SWaP of the instrument.
